Successful flow analysis depends as much on experience as software

Richard Korpus: the Principal ScientistRichard Korpus, Principal Scientist and Owner.

Dr. Korpus has more than 20 years experience developing, verifying, and applying RANS codes and their associated support tools. He helped pioneer the application of RANS to practical problems by developing one of the first (and still most reliable) overset methods. His applications span a wide range of industries and disciplines. His interest in applying RANS to engineering design extends to marine and aerospace vehicles, fluid/structures interaction, design optimization, hydrodynamic signatures, acoustics, and novel forms of propulsion.

Dr. Korpus earned his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 1989, and also holds Masters degrees in both Naval Architecture and Aerospace Engineering. He founded AFT in August of 2000 after 12 years developing RANS codes for other companies.

Claudio Cairoli: Naval Architect and CFD SpecialistClaudio Cairoli, CFD Specialist and Naval Architect.

Dr. Cairoli joined Applied Fluid Technologies in October 2007, after working for over two years for the Kiwi Magic Team whose design objective was the optimization of the 1987 12 Meter class boat KZ-7, and teaching a “sailing Yacht Design” graduate class at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He also developed a complete hydrodynamic force prediction software for sailing vessels, based on a boundary element method strongly coupled to a boundary layer.

For that work he earned a Ph.D. in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the Mechanical Engineering Department at the MIT. Dr. Cairoli also holds a MS degree in the same area, as well as a MS in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from the University of Virginia.
